September Update!

September Update!

September has been a busy month in studio for me. I am at the studio daily and for those who don’t know I have a studio at Central Presbyterian on Dauphin Street in Mobile, Alabama. This is a hub of art and community with artists, crafters, a food bank and much more. It’s a terrific space that takes me right back to my days in protestant Sunday School just down the street at the Methodist church. This month I have completed several projects that have been in the works for a while so it’s been a time to tie up loose ends. I finished a large scale Persimmon painting last week and am happy to say it may have already found a home. I am not starting another persimmon right now because I want to move into a new series of gridded images and I did finish a small study for this series on Thursday. It is currently at Sophiella Gallery. You can find it and all my work that is available on the website. Ive completed a widow too a Warrior Widow With Horns is the title and I want this one to serve as a reminder to myself and others how utterly vulnerable our planet is right now. If you know me you know how I love growing and painting Dahlias. I planted many tubers in the early spring for a fall harvest but alas there are no blooms. My blooms are all dried up due to heat and drought.

Meanwhile I am looking around for opportunities. Finally after a long career in art education I am able to work full time in my studio. This is a really happy and exciting time for me. One opportunity I have taken on is an Artist Residency in Scotland. My husband and I are leaving soon and we cannot wait to arrive. I have met my cohorts via Zoom and look forward to meeting them face to face as well as collaborating with them in studio. We will also do some work with the community which is a small town in Scotland near Glasgow. I am putting up my latest work in the image section here but you can see them on Insta, FB, Sophiella Website, and I am also on Threads, TikTok, and well that might be it for now! I am working hard to hone my skills on social media these days so check me out! Meanwhile have a beautiful Saturday!! Peace and Love from MEK
